Getting Fired in America because you don't speak Spanish!

I was surfing the Internet the other day and found a Video about how Firefighters who are getting fired because they don't speak Spanish. Crew captains are required in some states if not all states to be able to speak their firefighters languages.  Is this a definition of freedom.  Can any one person be allowed to speak a different language on freedom of rights.  I think so.  I think this is allowed to happen because it is his right to be free and therefore his right to speak what ever language he wishes.  As for should he speak English in America?  Well due to the fact that America has no National Language, yes he does have the right to speak Spanish in America.  Should others get fired because he decides to speak Spanish and not English?  No, that is discrimination and against the law.  It is against the Law to discriminated against because once again every man is free in our country.  Could it be taken to the Supreme Court?  Yes, it can and should be taken to the courts for their judgement.  It could even in fact start a national movement or law for the requirement of an English Language.

The basics of this country is that EVERY man is FREE.  Not just Americans.  We are built on these basic principals.  Someone might argue that they came to our country, they need to learn English.  If they learn English, then we will be forcing a person against his freedoms this country provides him to learn something he doesn't want to. The only forcing that should be done is to force a person who has committed a crime.  If a person harms another person in anyway, they have just given up their rights to be free.  This now allows for a person in this country to be forced to do something, but until that happens their freedoms should not be taken from them.

My personal opinion?  When a cop decides to pull over a person who is not fluent in English, but has a legal drivers license for the state he was driving in because the DMV deems in necessary to put Spanish up on the screens for driving tests instead of English.  This I think is a safety issue and should require either the driver to be fluent in English or Americans in general to be fluent in both languages.  I guess we will see what happens in the next couple of years.  I for one hope that English will be nationalized, but it is not the right of a free man to be forced to learn a new language.

That's right, you don't have to learn a language to live in America.  You have that right as a free citizen.  What you don't have is the right to a job, or to have anyone else be able to communicate with you.

If I moved to Spain, France, or Germany, or any other country that doesn't speak English, I have the choice not to learn the language.  This choice comes with the consequence that I won't be able to find a good place to live or a good job, it will be very difficult to do basic things like buy food and clothes, essentially I wouldn't last very long.  It should be the same here.

Thanks for the Comment and you are right. It is NOT their right to have a job in our country until they become citizens. I wonder if they were Volunteer Fire Fighters and didn't need to get a visa/passport to volunteer here.

the real topic isnt really about freedom in this case. Its about safety and business. This is an after affect of the fact that there is no regulation on language anywhere. particularly, in this country you have so many people that come here from so many different countries. on top of that there are enough people that come here from individual countries that you really dont have to learn english. you can just stay in your own little group of people that speak the same language and come form the same place. essentially, if you are a russian immigrant you can stay within circles of russian speakers and have your own country within america. you could get by without ever having to learn english. as a result we, as americans, have to adapt to the how this country has evolved since we cannot force people to learn english to get by- we must now be competitive enough to learn their languages as well as our own to communicate with everyone. if anything, this should be a push for us to better ourselves. although in cases like this familiarity breeds contempt.
for firefighters, if everyone on your squad speaks another language, you need to be able to communicate with them regaurdless. otherwise, lives could be put in more peril because communication is not clear. it is discrimitory, but its based on the fact that america is the way it is now, and in order to adapt in be more competitive in job markets we should be on top of those things. a similiar analogy would be going into a job with no college degree vs the other guy who has a college degree and a nicer suit than you. language has now become another credential on a resume. and for public safety this particular credential is now a requirement.
does it suck? yeah i think it does. but its not necessarily something we can change now without a fight or a
ridiculous amount of opposition. things are the way they are- we can adapt or pick a fight.
